About the role…
We are seeking an Director caliber candidate to oversee all video operations across the business, including our iconic YouTube channels (Across TheSmartLocal, MustShareNews, EatBook, and Zula) and custom productions operations. This is a new position created to bring TSL’s production capabilities to the next level.
The ideal candidate should have over a decade of experience in commercial video production and a strong portfolio of both local and regional clients. The candidate must have demonstrated abilities in leading teams and must have experience directly managing clients and projects timelines. Experience with YouTube and other Social Media platform specific formats are advantageous.
What you will do:
- Leadership – Grow, upskill and empower team leads and team members, identifying areas of training needed. Increase the standards and performance of the team. Makes critical decisions regarding workflow processes to ensure the highest amount of productivity and efficiency. This includes reviewing current processes and being able to troubleshoot effectively with both local/regional teams.
- Content and creative governance – be able to work with the respective channel leads to develop compelling creative ideas that can be feasibly executed within budget
- Commercial & Business Development – be able to work with sales and growth teams to pitch alongside for larger projects and be involved in budgeting and revenue
- Budget management – Setting up frameworks and developing production budgets for a range of different video executions.
- Cross department collaborations – Lead integrated campaigns and be able to work with other departments from sales to project teams.

The successful candidate should have:
- At least 10 years of commercial video production experience, of which 5 years in managing video teams
- Experience executing content for YouTube channels is preferred
- Able to lead manage commercial discussions and provide accurate costing
- Experienced in working with both internal and external freelance teams
- Skilled communicator and has experience in facing clients and leading external meetings
- Has the ability to keep up with trends and shifting platform and industry behaviors, and make recommendations on how to evolve the teams and channels to stay ahead
