TSL Academy x IMDA Learning Journeys
To nurture digital literacy and strengthen youth readiness in media, the Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA) has been a close partner of TSL Academy since 2022. This highly popular 2-hour learning journey format targets upper secondary & JC students, introducing interview-based video storytelling and the use of GenAI tools in content creation.

Guided by TSL Academy mentors who are industry practitioners – students learn to think critically, work collaboratively, and communicate their ideas with clarity. Now in it’s 4th year running, here’s a BTS-look at why this series of workshops is often oversubscribed, in our sessions that have impacted thousands of youth over the years.
From abstract ideas to visual storyboards
We believe that learning to develop & articulate abstract ideas into a concrete vision does wonders for our youth’s critical thinking & creative abilties. After all, compelling stories often begin with strong ideas & angles.
Hence, participants typically begin our sessions with a structured ideation exercise centred on Singapore’s education landscape. Working in small groups, they discuss possible story angles, craft interview questions, and develop concise storyboards to articulate their narrative approach.

This culminates in a mock pitch, where each group presents their finalised interview flow to demonstrate an understanding of storytelling structure, followed by an interactive Q&A session with our trainers about the ins-and-outs of the new media industry.
Hands-on production experience
Unlike conventional learning journeys, we’ve also included a practical production component where students get hands-on experience in operating cameras, adjusting lighting, and setting up audio equipment – to emulate the fast-paced dynamics of a live production set.
Coordination, clarity, and creative problem-solving are valued skillsets that help transform raw ideas into cohesive stories, while also offering a glimpse into how each role – from director to interviewer – contributes to the storytelling process.

Overall, TSL Academy remains committed to our cause of promoting digital literacy amongst youth, allowing future entrants to our vibrant new media scene to glean necessary foundational exposure to facilitate meaningful collaboration in our social spaces.
